Rizeena looks the Real Deal

Clive Brittain has trained some outstanding fillies over the last three decades and believes that in Rizeena, impressive winner of the Group 2v Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, he has a horse capable of taking his yard back to the very top of the table.

Great fillies such as User Friendly, Sayyedati, Crimplene, and Pebbles, have all shown what a talented trainer the veteran handler is; in particular, having a magic touch with fillies that, despite advancing years, appears to remain intact. His prowess is well-known to fans who back the GGs at betfair.

To be fair to the Carlburg Handler, he made it clear when interviewed after Rizeena’s eyecatching success in the listed National Stakes at Sandown last month that the daughter of Iffraaj could very well be his latest star turn. The James Doyle-ridden juvenile vindicated her handler’s opinion of her with an authoritative success over a high quality field for the five-furlong dash.

The final leg of a sparkling treble for Doyle that included wins in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes on Al Khazeem, and the Royal Hunt Cup on Belgian Bill, Rizeena was ridden with plenty of confidence towards the rear of the field for much of the way before beginning her run just inside the two furlong from home marker.

Quickening up well to join the gallant US-trained front-runner, Sweet Emma Jane, inside the final furlong, Brittain’s new star stayed on strongly to record a two-length success and catapult herself to prominence in the ante-post market for the 2014 Qipco 1000 Guineas, for which she is now a general 20/1 third-favourite behind Sandiva and Joyeuse.

Brittain is planning to follow the same route as he took with subsequent 1000 Guineas winner, Sayyedati, back in the 1990’s and intends to send Rizeena to the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes in Ireland before rounding off her first campaign with a bid for the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in October.
